St. Kitts on a Caribbean cruise (photos)

I’ve now been to St. Kitts and Nevis on a Caribbean cruise twice in the past three months: in December on Silversea’s Silver Spirit and late last month on Windstar Cruises’ Wind Surf. They were quite different experiences, and I’m creating this Visual List mostly with my photos from my Wind Surf sailing, which ended April 1.

Here’s a 360-degree video of my ziplining experience in St. Kitts – you can move the video right, left and downward as it runs.

On Silver Spirit, I booked ziplining in the morning and loved the four-segment ziplining adventure through the island’s tropical rainforest. After that, I headed off on a catamaran and snorkeling excursion.

On our Wind Surf trip, I encountered Marvin, an engaging taxi driver, on the pier and booked his time to drive me and my traveling companion, Janet, around the island. Unlike last time, we headed to the pretty southern end of St. Kitts, where you can see the Atlantic and Caribbean side by side. There, I launched my Phantom 4 drone on Frigate Bay and captured photos and video of the beach and mesmerizing turquoise and aquamarine lagoon.

Following that, we spent an hour at Brimstone Hill Fortress, a national park overlooking the Caribbean that is perhaps the best preserved historical fortification in the Americas, dating to 1690. It was built by the British with slave labor as a bulwark against the Spanish and French. In its heyday, the fort was known as “the Gibraltar of the West Indies” for its imposing height and seeming invulnerability.
