Construction begins on Crystal Debussy & Crystal Ravel

Luxury travel provider Crystal Cruises, operator of ships, yachts, river boats and a private jet, today announced the cutting of the first piece of steel for the construction of Crystal River Cruises’ two additional Rhine Class luxury river yachts, Crystal Debussy and Crystal Ravel, which are scheduled to sail in spring 2018.

MV Werften of Mecklenburg, Germany, celebrated  the occasion as the first plates of the extravagant river ships were flame cut in the presence of the Genting Group executive  Chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Economics Minister Harry Glawe and numerous other guests.

The two structurally identical vessels, Crystal Debussy and Crystal Ravel, measure about 443 feet (135 meters) long and 36 feet (11 meters) wide, and are designed for the burgeoning European luxury river cruise market. The 106-passenger ships, which will cruise the Rhine, Danube, Main and Moselle, exploring the iconic waterways of the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Hungary, are Europe's only all-balcony, all-suite river ships.

Another distinction is the exceptional attention paid to luxury and amenities, including  a 1.55-to-1 guest to crew ratio. The ships will feature Crystal’s acclaimed butler service for every suite, plush king-size beds that face toward the panoramic balcony windows, walk-in closets and wall-mounted flat-screen HD TVs. Both will offer Crystal’s highly acclaimed cuisine in multiple venues and a swimming pool.

The two ships join Crystal Mozart, which launched in 2016, as well as Crystal Bach, due in June, and Crystal Mahler, due in August.

The steel cutting ceremony marked the first under the MV Werften flag, whose order book includes a total of nine ships for the next five years. In addition to four river cruise vessels, three expedition mega-yachts for Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises and two cruise ships of the Global Class for Star Cruises – the largest in the world as far as passenger capacity – will be built at the group´s three shipyards.
