I've been waiting to see what Royal Caribbean was cooking up when it announced plans to add some "wow" factor to its older ships, and now we have a good idea: the Sky Pad, called "the first virtual reality bungee trampoline experience at sea."
Royal has put together a fun little 30-second video about the installation of Sky Pad on its 10-year-old Independence of the Seas taking place this month.
Guests have the option to put on a virtual reality headset and then strap into a bungee trampoline simulation, which is safer than the real thing.
Royal is rolling out this bit of next-generation on-board entertainment for its guests on both the newly refurbished Independence of the Seas as well as the retrofitted Mariner of the Seas.
Here's a look:
In a news release, Royal described the experience this way: "Guests will strap in and don their virtual reality headset to transport them to another time and planet to bounce over moon craters or compete in intergalactic games. The out-of-this-world experience is for guests of all ages, and also can be enjoyed without virtual reality headsets, for those who prefer to look out over the ocean as they leap toward the sky."
