Wonder of the Seas: World's largest cruise ship dazzles

Snapshot

Wonder of the Seas from Royal Caribbean reigned as the world's largest cruise ship for 22 months, from March 2022 to January 2024. At 5,448 passengers double occupancy and 6,988 guests at maximum capacity, this is a true megaship.

The fifth Oasis class ship sails out of Fort Lauderdale with seven-day itineraries to the eastern and western Caribbean. During the summer months, it moves to the Mediterranean with sailings out of Barcelona and Rome.

A whopping 236,857 gross metric tons in size, the ship features eight different neighborhoods, one more than on sister Oasis ships like Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas and Harmony of the Seas.

The open-air Central Park is an Oasis Class mainstay lined with upscale boutiques and elevated restaurants, like the guest-favorite Chops Grille. The Boardwalk offers casual eats, a merry-go-round and a reimagined AquaTheater. The new Suite Neighborhood is reserved for suite guests, providing access to Coastal Kitchen and other amenities. Other neighborhoods include the Royal Promenade, Entertainment Zone, Sports Zone, Youth Center and Wellness complex. The ship also has 19 pools.

Attractions on board include mini-golf, a sprawling water park, an ice-skating rink, Royal's signature Flow Rider, Zipline and the gargantuan Ultimate Abyss slide. The ship's 1,400-seat Royal Theater showcases new Broadway-style productions.

Highlights on board

The ship introduces Wonder Playscape, a top-deck, underwater-themed adventure play area with slides, climbing walls and an interactive mural activated by touch. The ship also features the Vue, a cantilevered bar high above the pool deck that displays a colorful mosaic canopy overhead after sunset. The Vue serves classic Caribbean and nonalcoholic drinks.

The kids can splish-splash away in the Perfect Storm trio of high-speed waterslides and kids aqua park Splashaway Bay.

Exclusive to Wonder of the Seas is its eighth district, called the Suite Neighborhood. It features a dazzling elevated Suite Sun Deck with a plunge pool, bar, loungers and nooks. Large families or groups will be attracted to the 1,350-square-foot Ultimate Family Suite, which has room for 10 and a slide connecting an upper-level kid's sleeping area to the main floor.

And the AquaTheater is the place to see aerial derring-do, diving and theatrical performances on Wonder of the Seas.
