I'm just back from a two-week voyage to Scandinavia aboard Viking Sun, one of Viking's cool 930-passenger ocean ships.

We flew into Stockholm and spent a night aboard the ship before our first excursion the next morning to Gamla stan, Stockholm's historic old town. For half the day, we roamed the centuries-old cobblestone streets, some of which date back to the 15th and 16th centuries. A well in the middle of a townsquare dates back to the 1400s, our guide told us.

As always, Viking includes at least one included shore excursion at every port its ships call on, and we took advantage of their expert tour guides at several destinations.
