MSC Meraviglia: New smart ship sails the Western Med
Swiss-based MSC Cruises launched its next-generation smart ship, MSC Meraviglia, in the Mediterranean in June 2017. (Meraviglia is the Italian word for amazement or wonder. Pronounced mair-uh-VEAL-ya.)
Here are some of the ship's highlights:
- A 315-foot-long indoor promenade with LED dome
- New dining venues, including the Kaito sushi bar and Teppanyaki restaurant, Eataly and Jean Philippe Maury chocolaterie
- Family-friendly facilities and attractions in a super amusement park, including 2 F1 Simulators, a full-size bowling alley and an Aqua Park with four waterslides and a Himalayan Bridge
- An extended MSC Yacht Club, an exclusive area of the ship that spans three decks with 78 suites and luxurious accommodations
- Three elegantly designed pools, including an aft pool that transforms into a dance floor at night.
Who will like sailing on MSC Meraviglia
MSC Meraviglia should appeal to active cruise passengers looking for the latest and greatest in cruising with a European flair. Meraviglia should also appeal to both families with kids who like thrilling waterslides and tech-savvy cruisers who'll enjoy one of the most technologically sophisticated ships at sea.
Where MSC Meraviglia sails
MSC Meraviglia sails itineraries in the Western Mediterranean, United Kingdom, Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea.
High-flying entertainment in Carousel Lounge
MSC Meraviglia showcases top-flight entertainment, including performances of Cirque du Soleil at Sea, which has teamed up with the cruise line to stage two original shows to be performed on board in the evenings six nights per week, at the purpose-built Carousel Lounge. Featuring the latest technology, this groundbreaking venue, which has been designed to meet the needs of Cirque du Soleil and its performers, offers a stunning circular performance space with a 180-degree circular glass wall.
MSC Cruises offers an exclusive on-site dinner service for up to 100 of the 450 guests booked for the show.
The ship features a second plush, 10,765 square-foot theater venue offering six different shows per cruise. With three showings per day, guests are provided with additional options in a variety of award-winning productions.
A 'super amusement park' for family fun
For the first time on any MSC Cruises ship, all of the facilities for families, kids and teens are all together in a super amusement park and children’s area. This means families have a dedicated area specially designed for their needs, providing a safe place for children, and an opportunity to also meet and get to know other families. This area includes the DOREMI Studio Lounge, a dedicated lounge for all family activities, DOREMI Tech Lab, a must-visit destination for kids who love technology, as well as facilities designed in partnership with family experts including the LEGO Group and Chicco.
To accommodate multi-generational vacationers, the ship sports a unique modular staterooms system that allows three staterooms to be combined together to accommodate up to 10 guests, as well as quadruple cabins that can accommodate a family of up to four people each, with a living space in the daytime and a sofa that converts into a bed at night.
Kids should love the ship’s Aqua Park with its four action-packed waterslides, a splash pool and champagne bowl. And the Himalayan Bridge thrills adventure seekers, who can attach themselves to a rope and cross the ship, nearly 200 feet above the water.
Exclusive private VIP area
There are 10 types of staterooms with a section of luxurious accommodations spanning three decks with 78 suites, 15 inside staterooms and two apartments. The two sought-after apartment suites are designed with a large living room and two balconies, one of which is a large outdoor space that has a dining table for eating al fresco and a private whirlpool.
This unique “ship within a ship” concept is specially designed for guests seeking exclusivity and privacy with enhanced options. MSC Yacht Club guests can look forward to world-class entertainment, specialty restaurants and boutiques before returning to their own private sanctuary.
For the millennial and high roller crowd, there’s a self-contained, private spot called the Top Sail Lounge, accessible by private elevator, with the One Pool Deck featuring a private pool, whirlpool baths and solarium.
Another notable feature of MSC Meraviglia is her impressive 315-foot-long Mediterranean-style indoor Promenade, featuring a 262-foot-tall LED sky that creates a more social atmosphere 24 hours a day with shops, snacks of ice cream or crepes created by Jean Philippe Maury, the award-winning French chocolatier and pastry chef.
One highlight on the Promenade includes pre-dinner parades. Dancers, singers and performers in their flamboyant costumes will dazzle – all overseen by the cruise director, leading the entertainment from a bridge over the Promenade.
At the end of the Promenade you'll find a versatile bar open 24 hours a day, serving coffee, cappuccinos and fresh croissants in the morning, and a wide range of cocktails in the evening – before transforming itself into a post-dinner ballroom. There also is a live band for guests to dance to, or simply enjoy the music throughout the evening.
Daytime diversions on the upcoming ship include:
- Three pools grace the vessel, including one main one located on deck 15 that is inspired by the cool vibes of Miami’s South Beach.
- The ship has the most generous poolside space at sea, around 82 feet long. By night, the pool becomes a visual spectacle, illuminated with special lighting.
- There is also a buffet nearby with inside and outdoor dining options, providing passengers with more convenience and optimal relaxation time.
- A 33-foot indoor pool with a magrodome opens when the ship is in port or the weather simply allows for it.
- A family pool at the aft on deck 16 provides panoramic views from the front of the ship, while by night it's transformed into a space where guests can dance the night away under the stars.
MSC Meraviglia features a total of 2,244 staterooms in 32 categories. The largest aboard MSC Meraviglia are the Yacht Club Royal Suites (700 square feet). There are also 46 wheelchair-accessible cabins.
There are 20 restaurants and food bars on board MSC Meraviglia, including fine dining restaurant in the MSC Yacht Club.
