Head to Santa Cruz de Santiago de Tenerife, or Santa Cruz, the capital of Spain's Canary Islands, for a serene getaway on its long, beautiful beaches.

The Colosseum in Rome was long the largest amphitheater in the word, holding 50,000 to 80,000 spectators who watched gladiatorial contests and public spectacles. It was built between 70 AD and 80 AD.
