How our Bliss Filters work
Roses are red, violets are blue and cruises are made for romantics like you. Valentine's Day is Feb. 14, so there's still time to book a cruise by Thursday for a romantic getaway when the occasion suits you.
Having been a few dozen cruises in February that included Valentine’s Day, I can attest whole heartedly to just what an amorous experience it can be when you’re with the one you love (or the one you're with). The classic TV show “The Love Boat,” featuring a Princess Cruises ship, showcased the romance of cruising for many seasons. Just keep in mind the choice of ship and accommodations is an important Cupid factor when picking your cruise.
Here are a couple of tips for picking the right romantic getaway.
First, if you are with your extra special one, you might want to splurge on a suite with a veranda. Even the non-luxury cruise lines offer special amenities with suites such as full meal service, sometimes a one-time stocked mini-bar, laundry service and so on.
If you have the budget, the all-inclusive luxury ships of Crystal Cruises, Silversea, Seabourn and Regent Seven Seas provide the most romantic extras. For instance, on Seabourn you can order the most attractive caviar plate and Champagne to be served anywhere you’d like — in bed, by the pool or some secluded spot on deck. That’s pretty darn romantic.
On Silversea your butler might light up your suite with non-flammable candles and bring some chocolate covered-strawberries or other sweet treats. Regent Seven Seas regales the taste buds with some of the best cuisine at sea, which you can enjoy on your private veranda. Crystal Cruises balconies also make for amorous settings; if you're on the Penthouse decks, your butler will set up lovely meals or cocktails and appetizers.
On any ship, lovers will find happiness looking out to sea with a mesmerizing wake swallowing up all your cares.
One memorable way to start your Valentine’s Day is to begin with breakfast in bed with Champagne and cappuccinos. Then, depending if it’s a sea or port day, head to the pool or beach. Have a lovely lunch ashore or on board. Get a couples massage at the spa (you might even be able to book side-by-side therapy baths). Relax in the cabin before cocktails or Champagne. Then maybe take in a show. Then to bed in a dreamy state of bliss having left all the planning to the crew.
If you’re just looking to ramp up the romance, there’s no need to wait until next Valentine’s Day. Book a cruise for a birthday or anniversary or surprise your sweetie with one in between. You'll want to discreetly ask about their availability before booking, but they will most likely jump for joy and be more than happy to alter any prior plans).
Bon voyage and Happy Valentine’s Day!
