Silversea is rolling out a number of special enrichment experiences for the remainder of 2017 dedicated to opera, ballet, food, wine, bridge play, wellness and learning.
The culturally immersive experiences, curated by the Silversea staff, are designed to both engage and enlighten the luxury cruise line's guests, according to marketing chief Barbara Muckermann.
Here is a preview of what is to come.
The Silversea fleet will host three sailings with Accademia Teatro alla Scala (La Scala Theatre Academy) soloists from its Academy of Lyric Opera onboard accompanied by piano.
The world renowned performing arts academy brings up international singers, dancers and musicians, some of whom guests will enjoy performing operatic librettos.
Two cruises will be aboard Silver Spirit on June 25 from Rouen to Lisbon featuring operatic star Luciana Serra and on September 21 from Athens to Venice. Also, Silver Muse will showcase the academy on July 15 from Athens to Rome.
Silver Spirit will additionally stage two ballet performers from the State Academic Bolshoi Theater of Russia: Daria Khokhlova and Artemy Belyakov. The acclaimed ballet company will be showcased as the two dancers again return to the luxury line with a pair of performances aboard each of two sailings in the Mediterranean on August 25 and September 3.
Fans of opera will also enjoy soloist Jean-Sébastien Colau of world famous L'Opéra de Pari as well as a partner on Silver Whisper. Performances will take place on board from Montreal to New York on October 23.
Food and wine connoisseurs have an entire collection of cruises to choose from during October 2017, first with "Tastes of the Mediterranean” on October 7 aboard Silver Spirit. Guest chefs Umberto Menghi and Michael Jacob will host the cruise, highlighting culinary demos, market visits, gala dinners and culinary excursions.
Meanwhile, on October 8, the "Relais & Châteaux Gourmet Cruise” aboard Silver Shadow will bring on Relais & Châteaux guest chef Dominique Bouchet — the owner of his self-named restaurant in Tokyo — featuring gala dinners and cooking demonstrations. Plus, there will be a L'école de Chefs cooking school program presented by Silversea corporate chef, David Bilsland.
Later on October 23, Silver Spirit will have a "Wine Cruise” in partnership with Comitato Grandi Cru d'Italia — an association of top Italian winemakers — and the Professional Association of Italian Sommeliers. Sommeliers Gennaro Buono and Giuseppe Vaccarini will inform guests about winemaking as they are presented some of Italy's finest vintages.
Silver Explorer’s "Culinary Expedition Voyage” will embark on an October 25 adventure cruise in South America with Peruvian and Chilean guest chefs and local specialties. Guests will have the opportunity to craft their very own seafood courses onboard.
Also on expedition cruises, Silver Discoverer will offer wellness programming on four departures in Micronesia, Melanesia and Australia on October 4, 18, 25 and November 9.
The complimentary offerings will include stretching, yoga and Pilates classes, daily lectures, cooking demos, Technogym equipment sessions with personal trainers and a selection of one free massage treatment.
Bridge players will especially appreciate Silver Wind’s Barcelona to Barbados voyage on November 10. Onboard will be the second Silversea bridge tournament and the chance for guests to compete for prizes, earn ACBL master points, sit in on seminars, and meet other international bridge players. Also featured will be American Contract Bridge League life masters Gerald Fox and Steve Smolen.
Additionally, Silver Perspectives in Silversea’s fleetwide enrichment program spotlights a variety of destination experts and guest speakers including authors, journalists, naturalists, diplomats, professors and other specialists. Topics can touch on anything from politics and the environment to tribal customs and ancient history.
