Luxury cruise operator Silversea has announced it's offering adventurous voyages to Australia’s scenic, remote northwest region.
The spectacular natural vistas of the country's northwest have been enhanced by the wettest December on record — seven times greater than normal. For those who want to take an expedition cruise in style to see waterfalls plunging into sun-scorched gorges, you have a choice of five mostly 10-day cruises on Silver Discoverer sailing between Darwin and Broome, Australia.
Silversea's expedition cruises run from March to May 2017 along the Kimberley coastline, including stops at King George Falls and Talbot Bay's Horizontal Falls. The twin cascades of King George Falls are among Australia's highest, plunging more than 262 feet. At Talbot Bay, the region's tides of nearly 36 feet create an astounding spectacle.
Depending on which way the tides are flowing, passengers will be able to experience an exhilarating Zodiac ride through the Horizontal Falls or book an optional helicopter flightseeing excursion to the impressive four-tiered Mitchell Falls.
"We purposely schedule our expeditions to the Kimberley Coast at the end of the wet season, when the waterfalls are in full flow," said Conrad Combrink, Silversea's global head of expedition planning and strategic development. "With December's extraordinary rainfall, the region's magnificent waterfalls will be on peak display this year, and we're very pleased to offer our guests this rare opportunity to witness nature at its most majestic."
Kimberley Coast offers a kaleidoscope of images — from white sand beaches and glistening turquoise waters filled with colorful marine life to towering red-hued sandstone cliffs and captivating, ancient rock art paintings. A landscape of striking contrasts reveals untouched wilderness rife with many bird species, including white-bellied sea eagles, ospreys, Brahminy kites and peregrine falcons. And the dramatic tiger-striped Bungle Bungle mountain range is perfect for aerial exploration on a complimentary Silversea excursion.
The recently refurbished Silver Discoverer provides a comfortable, intimate and welcoming, almost homey lifestyle. Accommodations are ocean-view suites. The food is signature Silversea sumptuous and the service includes a butler. There’s also lots to do with a substantial selection of all-inclusive shipboard amenities such as free beverages, wines and spirits served where ever you’d like on the ship, stocked in-suite beverage cabinet, and free Wi-Fi. And even your tips are taken care of.
Expeditions include exploratory Zodiac excursions and interactive walks ashore, led by experts in their field — marine biologists, ornithologists, geologists, botanists, historians, and anthropologists, are complimentary.
Departure dates for the 2017 Kimberley expeditions are March 26, April 6, April 16, April 26, and May 6. All-inclusive fares start from $9,450 per guest. For complete details, contact a Cruiseable travel consultant at 1-877-322-3773 — for free.
