Viking Truvor
Viking Truvor: Cultural odysseys from St. Petersburg to Moscow
Snapshot
Completely refurbished in 2013, the Viking River Cruises fleet in Russia and Eastern Europe offers exceptional ambience with all the comforts of a fine hotel. Enjoy spacious staterooms and suites, an inviting restaurant and beautiful public spaces on elegant ships that set a new standard of river cruising excellence in the region.
As Laura Bly of CruiseCritic writes: "Despite political pressures that have created one of the chilliest travel climates in Russia since the Cold War, Viking Truvor's regular 'Waterways of the Tsars" river cruises between St. Petersburg and Moscow give Western passengers an in-depth, exceedingly comfortable introduction to the world's largest country [by area]."
Who will like sailing on Viking Truvor
The demographic for Russia cruises is 55 and older. American couples make up the majority of cruisers, with some Canadians, Brits and Australians as well. If you have an interest in exploring the art, culture or history of Russia, then sailing on Viking Truvor would be a great option.
Where Viking Truvor sails
Viking Truvor sails the "Waterways of the Tsars" itinerary. The 13-day journey highlights the two sides of Russia: great cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg, and quaint Golden Ring towns like Yaroslavl and Uglich. You will spend time exploring the cities’ important landmarks: Moscow’s Kremlin, Red Square, St. Petersburg’s Catherine Palace, Peter & Paul Fortress and the Hermitage, and also discover the history and culture of Russia’s heartland.
River cruising is about destination immersion
River cruising is about the destination probably more so than the ship. While enjoying the creature comforts of Viking Truvor, make sure to take advantage of opportunities to connect with local culture, history and highlights of the places that you visit. Don't be surprised to see local dishes on the menu or local entertainers sharing music, dancing and stories.
Viking includes daily tours with the cruise fare, which makes the hassle of figuring out logistics less challenging. Most tours are done around lunch and then you are free to do what you choose until the ship leaves the dock.
You will be given a nightly briefing in the evening before dinner to get updates on the next day’s call to discuss the upcoming day’s activities, tours, and logistics. Plan to attend the session to discover highlights of the upcoming town's history, art, food, music and architecture of the cities and towns visited.
Dining
Viking Truvor has one restaurant. The atmosphere is casual yet elegant. Dinner is at a set time and you are welcome to sit with whomever you wish. When Truvor is not scheduled to leave port until later in the evening, treat yourself to a night on the town and sample cuisine at a nearby restaurant at your own expense, but it's a nice way to experience the local culture.
