Viking Alruna
Viking Alruna: Explore castles & cathedrals along the Rhine
Snapshot
Viking Alruna from Viking River Cruises debuted in March 2016 and carries 190 passengers and 50 crew members on 8-day Rhine Getaway cruises from Amsterdam to ports in Germany, France and Switzerland (and back).
Alruna is a Viking Longship and a sister ship to Viking Egil, Kadlin, Rolf, Tialfi and Vilhjalm, which sail on the Rhine, Main, Danube and Seine rivers. The highlights of your sailing will likely be destinations such as Marksburg Castle and the ruins of Heidelberg Castle, the classic Gothic architecture of Cologne, several cathedrals, multicultural Strasbourg, France, and the lush landscapes of the Black Forest.
Like other Viking Longships, the Alruna features the Aquavit Terrace, which transforms from an indoor to outdoor dining venue as the weather permits. For dining and entertainment, The Restaurant and Bar are the key go-to public spaces.
Where Viking Alruna sails
Viking Alruna sails 7-night Rhine River cruises from Amsterdam to Kinderdijk, the Netherlands; Cologne, Koblenz, Rudesheim, Speyer and Heidelberg, Germany; Strasbourg, France; Breisach, Germany, and Basel, Switzerland — and then 7-night cruises on the reverse voyage.
Dining
Viking Alrun has two restaurants on board: The Restaurant is the main dining venue, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows for panoramic views, and the Aquavit Terrace offers an innovative indoor/outdoor viewing area at the bow of the ship. Both serve regional specialties and American classics.
Highlights on board
Passengers can make use of Alrun's onboard Concierge, complimentary shipwide Wi-Fi and a 24-hour beverage bar. The ship also provides an array of options for cultural enrichment: Take part in immersive learning and enhancement activities both on board and ashore to complement your shore excursions. Or participate in hands-on demonstrations, cooking classes or local tastings and watch traditional performances by local singers and dancers.
Presentations provide a context for your own observations, enhancing your travel experience. Viking River Cruises has created a series of multimedia presentations where you can learn about the region you are sailing in.
There's no spa or fitness center but you'll get plenty of exercise walking during the frequent shore excursions.
