Nieuw Statendam
Nieuw Statendam shows off innovative new additions
Snapshot
The 2,650-passenger Nieuw Statendam from Holland America debuted in December 2018 as the second in the new Pinnacle class for the cruise line. The ship features several of the innovative venues that were introduced on sister ship Koningsdam as well as a few firsts, including a new specialty restaurant.
Among the features rolled out on Koningsdam that will carry over to the new ship are the stylish French-fare brasserie Sel de Mer, Dinner at the Culinary Arts Center, the Blend wine-making venue, a two-tiered Lido Pool with movie screen and the Music Walk, home to Billboard Onboard, Lincoln Center Stage and B.B. King's Blues Club at the Queen's Lounge.
Niew Statendam has its own style and new exclusive public spaces that set it apart from Koningsdam. The ship's interiors, created by famed hospitality designer Adam D. Tihany and noted ship architect Bjørn Storbraaten, are marked by grand light-filled spaces, visual drama and sumptuous interiors inspired by the fluid curves of musical instruments. A beautifully appointed mid-sized ship with elegant lines, the ship boasts a gorgeous three-deck-tall central atrium, sophisticated décor and amenities, and thoughtful modern touches such as bedside USB ports, frameless shower doors and customized wood cabinets.
Who will like sailing on Nieuw Statendam
Nieuw Statendam will appeal to cruisers who enjoy the latest in upscale amenities, interesting itineraries and a relaxing cultural odyssey without the staples found on bigger ships such as waterslides, crowded dining venues and a crush of activities. Nieuw Statendam also is targeting younger and solo travelers with a number of different offerings.
Where Nieuw Statendam sails
Nieuw Statendam sails 7- to 21-night itineraries in the Caribbean (Ocho Rios, Grand Turk San Juan, Cozumel, Curacao) from fall to spring. All Caribbean itineraries include a call at Half Moon Cay, the cruise line’s award-winning private Bahamian island known for its pristine landscapes, exciting shore excursions, exclusive beach cabanas and child-friendly activities.
From fall to spring, the ship repositions to Europe and sails 7- to 24-night itineraries to ports large and small, including Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Athens, Kotor, Santorini, Cadiz, Lisbon, Helsinki, Tallinn and other destinations.
Sailing on Nieuw Statendam
The name Nieuw Statendam (translated from the Dutch as "New Statendam") harkens back to the first Statendam ship in the late 1800s, and the new ship carries forward Holland America's storied 140-year heritage while incorporating modern, elegant touches.
Dining venues
Holland America is famous for offering the best dining experiences of any mainstream cruise line, and Nieuw Statendam offers the most culinary options in the fleet. Passengers dine in a formal setting in the main dining room, featuring a two-story venue with an airy, sophisticated ambience.
Other dining venues on board will include a redesigned Lido Market with themed stations; a new French seafood brasserie Rudi's Sel de Mer; a new farm-to-table concept dinner experience in the Culinary Arts Center, presented by Food & Wine magazine; and alternative restaurants Canaletto Italian restaurant, pan-Asian Tamarind and the Pinnacle Grill steakhouse, all for a modest additional fee.
Entertainment & nightlife
Nieuw Statendam was built for entertainment. Lincoln Center Stage, a collaboration with Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, features classical music with a quintet combining piano and strings. The venues Billboard Onboard and B.B. King’s Blues Club, with a large dance floor, complete the new wide-ranging “Music Walk” experience.
The ship's main theater, the World Stage, features 270-degree LED screens for multiple stage configurations. The Lido Pool, which is one of two pools onboard, has an outdoor screen, three whirlpools and two levels of cushioned lounge chairs.
Activities
You'll find a host of activities on board, including intimate tasting and wine-blending classes at BLEND by Chateau Ste. Michelle. Take an enrichment class to enhance your video-editing skills, take a Pilates class or simply relax at the Greenhouse Spa for an additional fee.
