American Eagle: East Coast sailings on a small ship

Snapshot

Launched in July 2023, the 109-passenger American Eagle is one of American Cruise Lines's “go anywhere” ships called Coastal Cats. The ships blend the best qualities of expedition adventure cruising with the refinement, luxury, stability and land proximity of river cruising.

The small ship uses a hybrid catamaran design that allows for smooth sailing along rivers, lakes, bays and protected coastlines all across America. The streamlined design and environmentally friendly technology also make these the greenest small cruise ships in the United States, according to the cruise line.

The first of 12 planned ships, American Eagle and its sister American Glory, have begun sailing the East Coast and will be joined by American Liberty and American Legend in 2024.

Where American Eagle sails

American Eagle offers a variety of itineraries up and down the East Coast, including a 7-night "Great Rivers of Florida," 7-night "Historic South and Golden Isles," 14-night "East Coast Inland Passage," 7-night "Hudson River," 7-night "Downeast Maine" and more.

Dining & amenities

American Eagle has a main restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition, there's a cafe on deck, and you can choose to dine on your room's balcony, which is uncommon for ships of this size.

Public areas include a panoramic forward lounge, upper sky lounge, games room and fitness center. Furnishings and artwork throughout the ship reflect the traditions of the East Coast, where the ship sails. You'll also find a self-service laundry on board. At the stern of the ship are some aquatic goodies, including kayaks and a tender for water-based exploration.

Staterooms

The ship features 56 outside cabins in six categories over four decks. Cabins run from 230 to 550 square feet. Lower-deck cabins have fixed windows while cabins on all the other decks have private balconies.

The largest accommodations are on the uppermost deck: four 425-square-foot Sky Suites and two Grand Suites that measure 550 square feet and feature a separate bedroom and living area and private dining area on the balcony. There are also three 230-square-foot single cabins, all with walk-out verandas.
