We're just settling back into our regular routine after eight wonderful days in Hawaii.
We didn't know quite what to expect, but the pandemic was not a looming presence during our getaway to the Big Island of Hawaii (my first time there) and Oahu. We got our smart bracelets — indicating proof of vaccination — at San Jose Airport, which made our direct flight to Kona a breeze. Masking wearing was required inside the Sheraton Kona, except in outdoor areas like the pool, and a majority of pedestrians wore masks along the fairly busy street.
Lots of highlights and memories. We were intriguted enough by the Night Dive With the Manta Rays to look into a reservation — but it was booked for a month out. (Check out the trippy colors in the Visual List above.) Next time!
For a tourist town, Kailua-Kona had some top-notch dining venues, and we hit several of them. Our favorites included the Fish Hopper, Huggo's, Jackie Rey's, Kapa Hale and Kalikala Cuisine for breakfast.
One heads up: Getting around proved a bit difficult. Rental cars were nonexistent, and ride shares were often unavailable, so just plan to go with the flow — remember, you’re on vacation. Mahalo!
